From “The book you wish your parents had read”
People make “bids for attention”.
These “bids for attention” can come in various forms, from asking questions,
“Look at this text my friend sent” (sharing something, wanting reaction)
“I had a rough day” (inviting you to ask more)
“Have you heard of this book I’m reading?”
Sighing loudly (wanting you to ask what’s wrong)
It’s important that we recognise and respond to these bids for attention.
In the age of distraction, we must make a point to nurture our relationships.
