What do we mean by someone who is “hard”?
What do we mean when we say they are a “serious” person?
We all recognise and admire these people:
People who have achieved something great, beaten the odds, or refused to give up in the face of adversity.
But we tend to think of physical prowess, when really the achievement of these people were possible because of person is first and foremost a mental feat.
The physical feats would be impossible without the mindset to make it happen.
Someone who is “hard” is just someone who’s behaviour follows their consciousness instead of their body.
Our body’s naturally want to conserve energy. We default to the lazy route, in both thinking and action.
So someone who is “hard” is simply a better thinker than most. They override their body’s intuition, to take the harder, more considered route.
- Someone who pushes on when the body says stop
- Someone who switches mental gears to face a “challenge”, instead of a problem
- Someone who acts with kindness when the automatic reaction is violence or selfishness.
- Someone who resists the temptation to eat that biscuit after dinner.
If we want to be serious, and achieve great things, we should practice overriding our brain and body’s tendency towards the lazy option
